Skagit Valley Claims SWOCC Women's Golf League Match by 4 Strokes
BANDON, Ore. - The Skagit Valley women's golf team claimed the first league match title of the spring on Monday and Tuesday at Bandon Dunes, hosted by Southwestern Oregon. The Cardinals won with a two-round team score of +100, just four strokes ahead of second place SWOCC.
The Cardinals' Malia Schroeder earned medalist honors with an impressive two-round score of 150, 6-over par. She shot the two lowest rounds among all women's competitors by far, winning by a combined 20 strokes. She had an outstanding first round shooting 73, followed by a second round score of 77. She was the only women's golfer to shoot under 80 in any round. Kiana Schroeder took ninth individually for the Cardinals with a two-round score of 186. Skagit Valley trailed by one stroke to Bellevue after the first round, but tied SWOCC with the best second round score of +51 to claim the win.
The Lakers took second place at +104, led by second place finisher Savannah Doughty who shot 170, 26-over par over the two rounds. Doughty was consistent with round scores of 84 and 86. Grace Callas tied for fourth for the Lakers with a two-round score of 181.
Bellevue placed third as a team at +109, led by Hadley McDonough who shot 175, 31-over par. Ava Guthrie tied for fourth for the Bulldogs at +37.
Spokane took fourth place as a team at +129, followed by Columbia Basin in fifth at +135. Blue Mountain took sixth at +155 and South Puget Sound placed seventh at +164.
After two of four league matches, the first coming during the fall, Bellevue and SW Oregon are tied for first with 16 points each. Spokane and Skagit Valley are tied for third with 13 points.
The next league match will be next week on April 19-20 at Tumwater Valley Golf Course, hosted by South Puget Sound.
