Guyette Breaks Collegiate RBI Record as Top Seeds Go Undefeated on Day 1 of 2026 NWAC Softball Championship
PORTLAND, Ore. - Mt. Hood slugger Sadie Guyette broke the collegiate single-season RBI record on Thursday as she drove in five runs to reach 133 for the season while the higher seeded team won all eight games on Day 1 of the 2026 NWAC Softball Championship on Thursday at Delta Park - Owens Sports Complex.
In the first season of the new 12-team championship format, the higher seeded team won all eight games to open the tournament. The first four games featured single-elimination matchups as #8 Everett defeated #9 Bellevue 11-3, #5 Spokane took down #12 Chemeketa 8-2, #6 Walla Walla won 13-9 over #11 Centralia, and #7 Clackamas beat #10 Columbia Basin 5-2. From there, the final eight teams compete in a double-elimination format.
Everett walked off Bellevue 11-3, led by 17 total hits and Kelsie Jensen's 4-for-4 game with three RBI. Spokane was led to victory on the arms of Samantha Rensvold and Cassy Seifert, who combined to allow just six hits and two runs to Chemeketa over seven innings. Walla Walla battled through rainy conditions to hold off Centralia's seventh inning comeback attempt, winning 13-9. The Warriors had 13 hits and scored seven runs in the third inning. Clackamas rounded out the single-elimination round as Kenzie West pitched a complete game in the circle.
#1 Mt. Hood, #2 Lower Columbia, #3 Edmonds, and #4 Southwestern Oregon each earned first-round byes, and took advantage of the extra rest. Three of the next four games ended by run-rule, with SWOCC earning the tightest victory of the day by a 3-2 score over Spokane. Mt. Hood run-ruled Everett 9-1 after five innings, while Edmonds earned a 10-1 run rule in six innings, while Lower Columbia ended the night with an 8-0 run-rule over Clackamas also in six innings.
Guyette had a huge game of 4-for-4 with five RBI to lead Mt. Hood, ending the game with a walk-off RBI double. She broke the RBI record in her first at-bat as she launched a two-run home run to give the Saints a 4-0 lead four batters into the game. Taylor Donahue was also 4-for-4, scoring four runs with three RBI of her own. Guyette entered the day trailing the collegiate record by just one.
SW Oregon held on late against Spokane as Maggie Young pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts. The potential go-ahead run reached base in the inning, but Young locked down the final out to advance the Lakers in the winners bracket.
After scoring two runs through five innings, Edmonds broke out for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early against Walla Walla. Emersyn Bakker capped the night with a three-run walk-off home run. Shelby Baguio was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI for the Tritons.
Defending champions Lower Columbia ended the night with an 8-0 shutout of Clackamas, led by Ava Eib's three-hit shutout. The sophomore struck out seven and did not allow a walk. Avery Garvey had five RBI including a bases-clearing walk-off double in the bottom of the sixth.
Thursday featured a one-hour rain delay in the mid afternoon, pushing the third round of games back to 5 p.m. starts. Friday picks up with the first two loser's bracket games as Everett faces Spokane and Walla Walla plays Clackamas, both starting at 11 a.m.
